THE THOMSON SCIENTIFIC ANNUAL LIQUENT REGULATORY AFFAIRS TRENDS SURVEY IS UNDERWAY

Survey Benchmarks Regulatory Trends Targeting Thousands Of Pharmaceutical Professionals Globally

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - May 12th, 2006 — Thomson Scientific, a business of The Thomson Corporation, and global leader in providing regulatory software solutions, information products and related services for the life sciences industry, today announced that its 2006 Liquent Regulatory Affairs Trends Survey is underway and exceeding response rate expectations.

Now in its fifth year, this survey is ranked amongst pharmaceutical professionals, industry analysts and life sciences publishers as the premier benchmark of global regulatory submission trends and has consistently achieved widespread coverage from many of the most influential life sciences publications worldwide.

Pharmaceutical regulatory professionals are invited to participate in the survey which provides insight and perspective into how regulatory departments use technology today and how they plan to harness technology in the future. The survey will gather input through to the end of May and will publish its findings to coincide with the Drug Information Association's (DIA) 42nd Annual Meeting on June 18th-22nd in Philadelphia. Full survey results will be made available to registered press and respondents at the end of June.

This year's global survey, which is expected to yield substantial responses from Europe and North America, concentrates on four key areas:

  • Technology Usage Trends, including: submission publishing software, eSubmissions, Submissions Lifecycle Management, and Registration Management;
  • Document Management Usage and Trends
  • Regulatory Operations Outsourcing Trends
  • Regulatory Trends – including: Structured Product Labeling, Product Information Management and current and planned use of the eCTD.

The 2006 survey has also evolved to incorporate new and developing standards such as HL7's regulated product submission standard.

Chronicled last year by more than 16 global life science industry publications and widely sourced, the Liquent Regulatory Affairs Trends Survey 2006 promises to provide new insights into how life science professionals are embracing technology, responding to rapid regulatory change, and handling the deadline pressures of mission-critical regulatory submissions.

Jim Nichols is Liquent's Vice President of Product Strategy and Marketing and is driving this worldwide initiative. “The success and take up of this year's survey is unprecedented. It is testament to the reputation that the survey has garnered, coupled with its unique insights, that we have surpassed last years total response rate in just the first week of issuing the survey.” Jim continues, “Each year the survey contributes significantly to advancing our understanding of the distinct needs of the global regulatory market and helps us to build upon our leadership position by establishing a very direct dialogue with regulatory professionals from life sciences companies large and small. We look forward to unveiling these unique insights and trends and to responding with world-class technologies and partnerships to fulfill their current and future demands.”
