Q. How does Thomson Innovation compare to current Thomson Scientific offerings?
A.  We took every opportunity in the design and development of Thomson Innovation to improve its content and features over current Thomson Scientific offerings. The first release has similar — and superior — functionality to PatSearch® FullText (PSFT), MPI and Delphion®. It combines comprehensive patent data — from leading industry and proprietary sources — with robust cross-search, analysis and collaboration functionality.  Enhancements will be added on an ongoing basis. Ultimately, Thomson Innovation will far exceed existing functionality, ensuring the solution is a significantly better offering than what is available today.

Q. If I currently use an existing Thomson Scientific product, must I move to Thomson Innovation?
A. Thomson Innovation is designed to make your research easier and more effective. We expect you will want to move to this solution to take advantage of its integrated content and workflow functionality, and we will work with you to determine the best time to do so.

Our plan is to inform customers in phases of the benefits of and improved functionality in Thomson Innovation. Customers will be grouped according to their current products and the functionality required. You will be notified of Thomson Innovation and your migration options at the appropriate time based on your product group. In that notification, we will explain the migration plan and how you can start to use Thomson Innovation.

Your satisfaction is our primary goal. Your account manager or a customer support specialist will work with you to ensure the timing and migration path meet your needs.

Q. What are the subscription options available for Thomson Innovation?
A. There are two subscription options in the first release of Thomson Innovation: Professional and Express.

Professional subscriptions are for advanced users who have a solid understanding of information resources and research information sources multiple times each week. Professional users typically require complex search and analysis capabilities, relying heavily on visual displays and text mining to draw their conclusions.

Express subscriptions are designed for occasional searchers who conduct research on an infrequent basis and utilize relatively basic search strategies. The Express level offers basis content and functionality access.

Q. Is there any training help available for Thomson Innovation?
A. Thomson Innovation is designed for easy use. It has a comprehensive online Help file and there will be quick reference cards to assist with common tasks.  We will also offer live and recorded training sessions. We expect that most users will quickly learn the offering with these tools. Your account manager may also arrange for onsite training.
