Thomson Scientific sponsors awards and scholarships that recognize and encourage research achievement, scholarship, information science, and librarianship — don't miss your chance to apply.

For information professionals:

Fourth Annual SLA Award for Australian and New Zealand Information Professionals
Thomson Scientific sponsors the Australia and New Zealand Chapter of the Special Library Association's (SLA) Informational Professional of the Year Award. This is open to all information professionals in Australia and New Zealand , and the judging panel will consist of SLA Australia and New Zealand Chapter board members and regional Thomson Scientific management. The winner, who will receive a prize of AUD 2,000, will be announced at the SLA Annual Conference, June 2008, in Seattle , USA . Nominations and questions should be emailed to Sonya Donoghue (s.donoghue@auckland.ac.nz ), Past President of the SLA Australia and New Zealand Chapter. The deadline for nominations is May 1, 2008, and individuals may nominate themselves or others.

Quantum 2 InfoStars
InfoStars are information professionals who are inspiring examples of creativity and innovation. Their stories provide insight into their professional achievements and leadership qualities, and enable them to serve as role models for others. They can be staff level librarians who inspire their colleagues, information center managers who act as catalysts for change, or senior managers in the organization who champion and support the information center. Their key characteristics are:

  • Strategic involvement in organization
  • Proactive relationship building
  • Innovative information services
  • Continuous change and development

InfoStars are announced each year at the ALA Midwinter Meeting in January, SLA Annual Conference in June and at the London Online Information show in December.

Thomson Scientific/Frank Bradway Rogers Information Advancement Award
This award is presented annually in recognition of outstanding contributions for the application of technology to the delivery of health science information, to the science of information, or to the facilitation of the delivery of health science information.

For students and teachers:

The Roger K. Summit Scholarship
The Roger K. Summit Scholarship was established to honor Dr. Roger K. Summit, the founder of Dialog, for his outstanding contributions to the field of information science. Two regional awards are made: one for North America and one for Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia-Pacific. Applicants must be students who are currently enrolled in a library and information science program within the award region. The scholarship recipient must have demonstrated outstanding interest or performance in electronic information services. The deadline for the 2008 North American scholarship award (USD 5,000) is April 30, 2008. The winner will be announced at the Special Libraries Association annual conference, to be held June 2008, in Seattle, WA , USA .

The ISI Doctoral Dissertation Proposal Scholarship
To foster research in information science, Thomson Scientific awards a scholarship of USD 1,500 plus USD 500 for travel or other expenses so the grant recipient can attend the ASIS&T annual meeting. Application deadline is July 1.

The ISI Outstanding Information Science Teacher Award
This USD 1,000 award is made annually to a recipient who has made a unique teaching contribution in the field of information science, and includes an additional USD 500 towards travel to the ASIS&T annual meeting. Nominations must be submitted to ASIS&T Headquarters by July 1.

The ISI/ASIS&T Citation Analysis Research Grant
Created in 1997 with a donation by ISI (now part of Thomson Scientific), the USD 3,000 grant supports research based on citation analysis by encouraging and assisting individuals with ongoing or newly proposed research in this area of study. The deadline for applications is June 15.
