Section
A: New Compounds
Section A of the Gazette
covers all new applications describing novel compounds and derivatives with
pharmaceutical utility. An analysis of the invention is provided, including its
origin and how it relates to established drug candidates or research work,
putting the discovery into its true commercial context. Because these new
compound applications are especially important, all cases within Section A are
presented with accompanying images of the full front page text of the
specification, in order to provide at a glance the chemical structure of each
compound as well as the official abstract, names of inventors and technical
details.
Section
B: New Uses, Formulations & Methods of Treatment
As candidates progress into development they often
become the subject of further innovation. The claim types vary considerably, and
include such aspects as new methods of treatment and formulations, alongside
ancillary technology not directly related to therapy, such as diagnostics.
Analysis of these new use and formulation cases can offer insights into which
compounds are progressing towards commercial exploitation, in which formulations
and for which precise indications.
Section
C: Chemical Processes and Combinatorial Technology
Advances in chemical technology are another good indicator of a company's development
activity and such cases are covered in Section C. Study of these scale-up cases
can point to pipeline candidates being prepared for clinical trials and ultimately
commercial production.
Section
D: Biotechnology
Biotechnology is the most
rapidly expanding and sometimes most controversial area in the pharmaceutical
industry today. The latest advances in transgenics and cloning, viruses, enzyme
and polypeptide compounds and immunology are all presented in Section D.
Collaborations between companies and non-industrial researchers are also
highlighted to provide you with the cutting edge in competitive intelligence.
Section
E: Devices and Equipment
Section E is the
first of two device-orientated sections covering advances in mechanical
technology linked to the pharmaceutical and biotech sectors. Applications
relating to analytical and manufacturing apparatus are featured alongside drug
delivery devices, packaging and developments in software related to patient
administration and remote diagnosis.
